The selection for this year is:
RIEN A DECLARER - Nothing to declare (2010) (M) 103 mins
Written and directed by Dany Boon
with Benoît Poelvoorde, Dany Boon, Karin Viard
Writer, director, actor Dany Boon is the past master of making audiences howl with laughter. His ‘Welcome To The Sticks’ broke box office records. Boon hilariously interweaves conflict (rivalries between French and Belgian customs officers), satire (EU regulations), a love theme (Romeo and Juliet separated by the border), and desperately dodgy dealings at the No Man’s Land Cafe. No wonder this movie sold millions of tickets at the French box office.

LES MAINS EN L'AIR - Hands in the air (2010) Drama (G) 90 mins
Written and directed by Romain Goupil
with Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Linda Doudaeva, Jules Ritmanic
A comedy-drama from director Romain Goupil that casts light on a group of school children in Paris, many of whose parents lack legal status. The focus is on Milana, a ten year old Chechen, who comes close to being discovered by authorities - but her friends join forces to protect her. Winner of the 2011 European Silver Ribbon.

L'HEURE ZERO - Zero hour (2007) (Rating TBA)
Directed by Pascal Thomas
with François Morel, Danielle Darrieux
Agatha Christie’s ‘Zero Hour’, published in 1944, has a plot that mixes all her classic ingredients.
There’s a family reunion at a luxurious estate where things turn ugly. Inspector Bataille has to be called in to investigate a dead body. Is it murder? This adaptation, set on the Brittany coast, is from the same team that made ‘By The Pricking of My Thumbs’, screened at our 2009 Festival. It casts one of France’s most revered stars - Danielle Darrieux, whose international career started in 1931 at the age of 14 years.

UN POISON VIOLENT - Love like poison (2010) (MA 15+) 92 mins
Directed by Katell Quillévéré
with Clara Augarde, Lio, Michel Galabru
Young teenager Anna (Clara Augarde) returns home from her Catholic boarding school in time for her impending confirmation. But this holiday will become a struggle as she matures into adulthood. She discovers her parents are living apart, her mother coping only through the efforts of the local priest. She’s confronted with the mortality of her beloved grandfather, and she’s attracted to Pierre, a free-spirited teenager who cares little about God. This frank and tender debut feature won the Prix Jean Vigo.

LA GUERRRE DES BOUTONS - War of the buttons - 2011 (Rating TBA) 105 mins
Directed by Yann Samuell
with Alain Chabat, Eric Elmosnino, Mathilde Seigner, Fred Testot, Salomé Lemire
This huge success at the French box office is the fifth movie version of a 1912 novel by Louis Pergaud that has been reprinted over 30 times. Two rival gangs of kids from neighbouring villages wage amusing and playful combats that escalate into violence. Filmed in the Auvergne, this cheeky family comedy touches on integration, independence, innocence, conflicts big and small, as well as growing up.
